Psoriasis is an irritating and chronic skin disease that is a result of skin cells multiplying rapidly. This piled-up layer of cells appears as patches on the skin, characterized by redness and irritation. Symptoms of psoriasis include itching, inflammation, and pain. The condition is often triggered by factors like emotional stress, dry skin, sunburn, smoking, alcohol consumption, environmental triggers, viral or bacterial infections and certain medications like beta-blockers, malarial preventives, lithium, and ibuprofen.

Most types of psoriasis go through cycles of flare-ups and remissions.

Use these home remedies to control the symptoms of psoriasis.

Colloidal Oatmeal
Colloidal Oatmeal

The advantage of colloid oatmeal is that it can be easily applied and is absorbed quickly. An oatmeal bath helps hydrate the skin layers and reduces itching and inflammation. It also softens and calms the skin, but also calms the nerve. Mix 1 cup of finely powdered oatmeal into a hot water filled bathtub. Immerse in this oatmeal bath for 15 to 20 minutes every day during flare up. When bathing, rinse with lukewarm water, dry your skin and apply a lot of moisturizer. You can do it every day during flare up.

Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar helps to restore the natural pH balance of the skin and helps to prevent infection. Mix one tea spoon of organic apple cider vinegar in one cup of water, drink it twice a day during flare up. Since it detoxifies the body, this remedy is also good for overall health. Alternatively, mix one part apple cider vinegar and three part lukewarm water. Soak the washing cloth in this solution and compress it on affected areas for about 1 minute. Repeat several times a day during flare up. If it works for you, you should see the results within a few weeks.

Cayenne Pepper
Cayenne Pepper

This hot chili comes with a complete host of health benefits and is very useful for your psoriasis. Capsaicin is the main active ingredient of cayenne pepper that makes them hot. Capsaicin may generally help reduce symptoms of inflammation, pain, redness, and scaling seen in psoriasis. Cream with capsaicin can be used. Alternatively, you can mix cayenne pepper powder with almond oil and apply to affected areas. Note: Do not place capsaicin containing mixtures on your face. Please check if you are allergic to capsaicin ointments as it may cause burning sensation. Please wash your hands with soap after use.

Epsom Salt
Epsom Salt

Epsom salt bath is ideal for skin diseases like eczema and psoriasis. Epsom salt is magnesium sulfate and it has unique characteristics to relieve itching and burning sensation and soften the scaling occurrence in psoriasis. In addition, due to the large amount of magnesium contained in it, it is good for relaxation and detoxification. Experts say immersing the body with epsom salt boosts the body's magnesium level. Put 2 cups of Epsom salt in a bathtub and fill with hot water. Soak for about 15 to 20 minutes. When you leave the bath, pat dry the skin and apply a good moisturizer. Do this two or three times a week.

Garlic
Garlic

Garlic is another useful treatment for psoriasis due to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. It inhibits the activity of an enzyme called lipoxygenase that causes psoriasis-related inflammation. In addition, being an antimicrobial agent, it helps to prevent infection. Studies suggested that external application of garlic is an effective remedy for psoriasis. Eating garlic can also prevent the occurrence of psoriasis due to its active compound and blood purification properties. Mix same amount of garlic oil and aloe vera gel. Apply to affected area. Please leave for about 15 minutes before washing. Please do this everyday until you see improvement.

Olive Oil

As it softens the skin, olive oil is better for handling psoriasis. Polyphenols present in extra virgin olive oil are effective for the prevention and treatment of immune diseases such as psoriasis. Simply apply generous amount of olive oil to the affected area will help treat psoriasis. Please use it several times each day until you get a positive result.

Turmeric
Turmeric

Turmeric has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. The active compound curcumin reduces inflammation and inhibits an enzyme called phosphorylase kinase, which is involved in skin cell proliferation. Mix one teaspoon of turmeric powder with almond milk or diluted coconut milk (1: 2). Drink it every day for at least several weeks. Alternatively, add enough water to one teaspoon of turmeric powder to make a thick paste. Apply it in the afflicted area, cover it with gauze and leave it overnight. Remove the gauze the next morning and rinse with lukewarm water. Please reapply after several hours. Please do this everyday until you are satisfied with the results. Note: Do not take turmeric if you have gallbladder problems or blood coagulation problems.

Licorice
Licorice

Licorice has been used in Chinese medicine for a very long time for the treatment of psoriasis. It is currently used for the treatment of dermatitis / eczema. Licorice root is good for skin conditions like eczema because of its active compound called glycyrrhizin. It has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that reduce inflammation and benefit the skin. Apply 2% licorice gel or cream twice a week to the affected area. Alternatively, you can boil 2 teaspoons of licorice root in 6 cups of water, then simmer for about 40 minutes. Cool and strain the solution. Immerse the washing cloth in this solution, please compress it against affected areas several times every day. Another option is to fill the jar with the Licorice route, pour olive oil into it, close the lid and heat it over low heat for several hours. Let the mixture cool and apply it to affected area. Please leave it until it is completely absorbed. Please use it two or three times daily until you see improvement.

Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera

Aloe vera gel is an effective topical treatment for many skin problems such as sunburn, broken skin, burns, and many others. It also provides relief from the symptoms of psoriasis. It forms a protective layer on broken skin and promotes healing. In addition, it is rich in many bioactive molecules with antioxidants, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory compounds. Therefore, it helps to boost the immune system when fighting inflammation. Extract translucent gel from Aloe vera leaves. Please apply it to the afflicted area. Leave it until it is completely absorbed by the skin. Please repeat three times daily for several weeks.
